AMAZING FIGURAL ART DECO WALL PLAQUE

VERY RARE \"MODERNE\" DESIGN FROM AVANTE GARDE 1920s - 1930s MOVIE THEATER

Incredible example of high style Art Deco, this gorgeous piece was cast for use as a side panel for a row of theater seats. This is the finest theatre panel I have ever seen in over 30 years of collecting American & European Art Deco and visiting Deco theatres across the country -- I can only imagine how gorgeous the rest of the theatre must have been!

The prancing nude and abstract decoration is cast in high relief, with the raised areas projecting about 1/8\" from the background. The colors are bold and lively: greenish blue (a dark teal), orange and maroon. The black painted wood armrest is cleverly incorporated into the sleek design. Its asymetric shape looks fantastic when used as a wall plaque (although panel is very heavy, the metal hardware on the inside will make mounting very easy.)While there is some wear to the surface and small areas of paint loss, it has a wonderful patina and the colors are rich and stunning (one could certainly repaint to have it look \"new\", but I love it just as it is.)

In my research, I was able to locate a period advertisement by the manufacture, Irwin Seating Company, featuring this panel design (see last photo.) Amazingly, the company is still in business!
