Great graphic issue relating to Japan early in the 20th century.

Theartist\'s name seen within on illustrations is: Adaram Makaro.

Scarce original vintage French periodical with lovely turn of the century Art Nouveau [jugenstil]illustrations.

In Good mostly very clean condition. Paper is age tonedand a bit brittle as always, but the issue is clean and quite well-preserved. There issome separation along the spine, pages are/could be loose due to the old organic spine glue having now dried and crumbled. Small minor edge splits may not be mentioned if they are have been cleanly closed with archival tape and are almost invisible to the eye when browsing the magazine.

L\'Assiette au Beurremagazine was started in the early 20th century inFrancebySamuel Sigismond Schwarz, a Hungarian book broker. The magazine was focused around socialist and anarchist views, depicted in series of caricatures and editorial cartoons. The periodical has been considered an iconographic testament to theBelle Epoque, or thebeautiful era in France.The modern approach and sensibility is found throughout the issues,with wonderful aesthetics on almost every page, including the advertisements.

The covers are often like posters, the interior graphics often the ideal ofearly 19th centuryFrenchgraphics. It has been said that the typography and hand-lettered fonts continue to influence computer & graphic design fonts of today.
