This original Audubon lithographcomes from the Royal Octavo edition of Quadrupeds Of North America, by JohnJames Audubon. This edition was lithographed and HAND COLORED by the printingfirm of JT Bowen of Philadelphia. No two can be exactly alike. Drawn on stoneby W. Hitchcock. The animals have a superbly realistic appearance. Audubon\'ssecond great work, after his Birds, is a landmark of American natural science.

Any print bearing the JT Bowen orNagel & Weingaertner attribution is a first edition print.

This is Plate 93 and was published around 1849. It is in excellent condition.

This print is the full size 6 3/4inches by 10 1/2 inches. It has not been cropped like other prints you’ll find.

It is from my personal collection, Ipurchased it from The Audubon Wildlife Gallery in Charleston, South Carolina.

Manysubscribers of these prints originally had their sets bound into books. Thisprint is from such a binding. That is why you see the binding fringe at theedge of the page.
