Austro-Hungarian Empire Solid 800 Silver Double Lipped Gravy or Serving Bowl Pest Presented is alarge, hand hammered, double lipped and handled, Gravy or Serving Bowl.The hand hammering marks can be clearly seen on the underside of the tray.All othersurfaces are mirror finished. The tray and bowl have decorated borders accented with shells.Beautiful piece that presents very well.It was made in the late 19th Century in theHungarianCity of Pest (Budapest). Both the tray and bowl have the \'Dianakopf\' mark (Diana\'s Head) for 800 silver (80% silver content). The mark also contains the P mark for the city of Pest. There is also a T within a shield mark, on both pieces,but I do not know what it means. Last there is the maker\'s name SELIGMANN which is just on the tray.The Seligmann family appears to have been well known silversmiths throughout the 19th century.The tray is 93/4\" by 6 3/8\". The bowl is 9 3/8\" by 5 1/2\", including the handles. With the tray attached the piece stands approximately 5 3/4\" tall. (24.8 by 16.2 cm, 23.8 by 14 cm, and 14.6 cm respectively). Heavy gauge metal --approximately 29Troy ounces.
The Diana\'s Head mark with the city mark were used 1872-1922.Excellent condition. No defects noted. Surface shows less thannormal wear.No Monograms. No removals or repairs.The piece is well designed and can be easily taken apart for cleaning. There is a second hole in the base to allow hot air to escape the hollow base when hot food is placed in the bowl.The serving piece in the 3rd picture is just for perspective.
