HISTORY -1st Howitzer Battalion, 132d Artillery (105mm SP) was organized on 11January 1947 as the 646th Armored Field Artillery Battalion with batteries inParis and Mount Pleasant, Texas, assigned to the 49th Armored Division. Thebattalion perpetuates the history of the 132d Field Artillery Regiment (less 2dBattalion). On 2 July 1946, elements of the World War II 557th Field Artillerybattalion were reconstituted as elements of and consolidated with the 646th.The 557th was recognized with campaign participation in Northern France,Ardennes-Alsace, Rhineland, and Central Europe in World War II as well. The646th was redesignated as the 1st Howitzer Battalion 132d Artillery on 16 March1959.
