1897 CORONATION EGG

Up for sale is an authentic contemporary Fabergé egg in its original blue, velvet-lined box. This egg is a detailed replica of the original Carl Fabergé egg given by Czar Nicholas II to Czarina Alexandra Fedorovna in 1897 on the first Easter following their coronation. This superb recreation features a guilloche sunburst field enclosed by a gold laurel leaf trellis-work cage, mounted at each intersection by a black enamed Imperial double-headed eagle set with a simulated diamond. This pattern was inspired by the Coronation robe worn by the Empress. A large glass diamond is mounted at the top and bottom of the egg, with the top diamond surrounded by a cluster of 10 small diamonds.

The \"surprise\" concealed inside the egg\'s elaborate shell is a replica of the Imperial coach used to carry Alexandra Fedorovna to her coronation in Moscow in May 1896. The coach has a yellow gold finish with translucent strawberry-colored enamel highlights. The egg is quite large and measures approximately 5 1/4\" tall and 4\" wide. The coach measures approximately 3\" long, 1 1/4\" wide and 1 3/4\" tall. The egg is marked on the inside lip with the Fabergé name and comes with its original metal stand and Fabergé box. Sorry, I do NOT have the small information card that originally came with this piece.

I purchased this Fabergé egg at a fine estate sale several weeks ago. The egg is an authorized Fabergé design handmade by skilled craftsmen using quality materials. This Fabergé Imperial Egg is part of a museum quality collection that captures the very essence of the magnificent and historic Fabergé tradition. It originally retailed for $2,000 from authorized Fabergé dealers.Condition of this Faberge Coronation egg is EXCELLENT. The egg and coach are completely undamaged and were obviously well cared for. The box is also in great condition. As I mentioned earlier, I do NOT have the information card for this piece. Overall, this authentic Fabergé egg looks fantastic and displays beautifully.
