The Service No.1 khukuri (kukri) is the most common and popular khukuri amongst Gurkha soldiers. It is issued to all of the British Gurkha soldiers during enlistment and retained by them throughout their army career, used both in parades and duty. After being issued, the weapon is engraved with the recruiting years and country on the left side of the blade. All khukuris have two pockets on the back of the scabbard which hold a blunt piece of steel, called \"chakmak\", used for sharpening the blade or for starting fire from a piece of flint, and a very small blade known as \"karda\", used for skinning. The notch (kaura or kaudi) in the blade near the hilt of most khukuris serves as conduit for the blood on the blade to drip out, thus preventing it from soiling the hilt, as well as a device for blocking enemy weapons.Shipping is free in the UK.
