Northwest Plains Dakota Arrow with Attached PointGREAT FATHER\'S DAY GIFT. . . . JUNE 21ST

This arrow was made by an ancestor of the enrolled Dakota Tribe. I am told it is circa mid 1890\'s. It was once part of a much larger collection that has been pieced out over the last decade. Some of the newer shafts are affixed with the metal trade points and the older ones still affixed with flint points by the use of sinew. Please examine the photos carefully. This is not a modern piece. Please ask any questions prior to offerding on the item for sale. While there are several arrows popping up on , please be advised, some are modern arrows made by direct descendants and should be affixed with a tag marking as such. Most arrows are affixed with metal trade points, others are not.

The feathers are this shaft are most likely Turkey Feathers. If you purchase an item, be assured this will be shipped with the best of care and the feathers are to the degree of over dry, (feathers are deteriorating) this arrow is priced based on age and condition. It will ship in a crush proof tube. This arrow measures 22\" from tip to tip. You will be buying a quantity of one authentic long bow arrow.

*I have been questioned about feathers being glued onto the shafts, others being tied onto the shaft and some being neither tied or glued. Research shows that Fletching of Arrows was done for accuracy not for balance. The Plains Indians could typically ride a horse within 10 feet of their target not needing a great deal of accuracy so they arrows were shorter and typically not fancy. The lack of glue accounts for many of the truly Plains arrows being gone or poor condition. Western Indians required a great deal of accuracy and some of their arrows are still in a condition that could be used today. Plains were typically 22-24\" arrows with Turkey Feathers, West Coast were 26-29\" often with Owl Feathers and East Coast 25-32\" typically with three feathers, not two. However, with exception to Owl most Indians used feathers from any predatory bird. \"Source: Bows and Arrows of the Native Indian by Jim Hamm\"
