This is the signature of W. S. W. VauxWilliam Sandys Wright Vaux (1818-1885) was an English antiquary
who worked for several decades at the British Museum. Vaux was connected with the Oxford Movement, an influential
group of members of the Church of England who developed
a theology of the Anglican Church that pushed it in the direction
of Roman Catholicism. Vaux contributed much in the field of numismatics (coin collecting),
and wrote many papers in that field, as well as in many areas
of ancient history. Many of these papers were published in the
Numismatic Chronicle, the well known journal published since
1836 by the Royal Numismatic Society, London.
Vaux was also a skilled illustrator, with some of his drawings
appearing in his books. Among his many writings are the books
NINEVAH AND PERSEPOLIS (1850); HANDBOOK TO THE
ANTIQUITIES IN THE BRITISH MUSEUM (1851); and ANCIENT
HISTORY FROM THE MONUMENTS (two volumes, 1875 & 1877).The signature is clipped from the conclusion of a note or letter.
It is on a small piece of paper, about 1\" by 2.8\".It is signed as follows:believe me

W. S. W. Vaux The autographed clipping is attached to a larger piece of paper,
upon which some biographical information is written.
The autograph is in good condition. It is enclosed in a clear plastic sleeve, for protection.
