This is a payment promissory note signed by Charles Carroll. It was created in Baltimore and is dated December 25, 1829. It was a note promising to pay $416.67 on the first day of the March following. He lived until 1832 and was the last surviving signer of the Declaration of Independence. He was also the only Catholic signer of the document.Condition: This signed note measures 4 inches high by 8 inches wide. Charles Carroll was a delegate from Maryland who signed the Declaration of Independence. He signed his name as Charles Carroll of Carrollton to differentiate him his father of the same name. He was an advocate for military conflict to establish American independence. First elected to the Continental Congress in 1776, he served to 1778 in that political body.
