You are contemplating the purchase of this rare and vintage, handmade SPACE SHUTTLE mailbox.
This item is a one-of-a kind, pre-owned and vintage offering. It is a regulation size, official US Postal Service mailbox, that has been redesigned and modified to look like the historical Space Shuttle. We have included many photos that clearly show its need for repainting and redecorating. It will need the loose paint removed and new graphic images applied if you wish it to look as new. You, however, may also opt to install it just as it is, with its original paint and the grandeur of coming from the Cape Canaveral Florida area.
Recently acquired from a Florida Estate sale, it is believed to have been designed and handcrafted and then graced the home of a former NASA employee who was furloughed and then left the Cape Canaveral and Brevard County, Florida area when the Space Shuttle program ceased. This item has been fabricated around a standard 18 3/4" x 8 3/4" x 6 1/4" US Postal Service metal mailbox, using wood, fiberglass, etc. in a painstaking effort to create a mailbox that truly has unique street appeal. This is indeed a large, attention-getting mailbox, with overall measurements of 36 inches in length, from its nose to tail, a 29 1/2 inch wingspan, and 15 inches in total height, from the bottom to the top of its tail.CAUTION: This item is pre-owned, vintage, and needs extensive cosmetics. It has been exposed to weather conditions including rain, wind, and ultra violet rays of the sun. It will need repainted and restored if you wish it to look like brand new. It, however, can be utilized absolutely just the way it is, and in its orignal form. Please be advised thatNO post is being included. CAUTION & WARNING.
This superb and unique piece of NASA nostalgia is, indeed, a USED or PRE-OWNED Mailbox. As such, it has paint chipped off and either needs to be fully restored with a new paint job, or just placed on your existing mail post to enjoy it just as it is, and for many years to come.
How we believe it was made:
Construction started with a standard U.S. Post Office approved mailbox, and the wings were added, along with the nose of the ship as well as the power booster or power supply. Then, it was painted to look just like one of the shuttles.
We are certainly not in the mailbox business. Therefore we cannot attest to exactly which kind of pole will best be suited for this mailbox. We do acknowledge that it is heavy, and we would imagine the best results will be had with a 4"x4" solid wood post. Please be certain that this particular antique or vintage mailbox will suit your particular needs, because, with all our vintage items, it is our policy to not offer a warranty or guarantee of any kind. In other words, this is a WYSIWYG sale (What you see is what your get). Please peruse all the photos and understand that the mailbox is ,indeed, all handmade, unique, original, and nostalgic, but, of course, in need of cosmetics. It is in solid condition right now, certainly weathered, and, if you prefer a newer look, it will make a wonderful project for the artist in your family to create your own yard masterpiece for the entire neighborhood to enjoy.
