This sale is for an absolutely beautiful antique footed vase. It

was manufactured and decorated by the Limoges factory of Martial Redon, one of the earlier porcelain firms operating in the Limoges region of France with roots going back to the mid 1850\'s. The vase is marked with the early green underglaze whiteware mark used by the company ca. 1882-1890, as well as an impressed mark in the base. The vase is made of hard paste Limoges porcelain and has a beautiful oblong shape with a cut-out footed base and scrolling handles.

The decoration on this vase is outstanding. The ground color is a matte ivory with sponged gold on the rim and the foot. The lower portion of the vase and the handles have a tiffany finish of green overlaid with more sponged gold. The floral decoration is painted in the realistic manner that is associated with the aesthetic movement of the art nouveau period. The front of the vase has full blown pink poppies and green poppy buds, while the back has pink poppies just starting to bloom. The divided leaves and hairy stems are depicted just as found in nature. The very talented factory artist who decorated this vase also outlined each element of the design with thin lines of gold. We have provided many photographs of the exquisite hand painting in different lighting and against different backgrounds and further refer you to Mary Frank Gaston\'s reference work on Limoges porcelain where the same shape vase and the same poppy decoration are pictured.

The vase has applied handles with beautiful molding at their base. The footed base is oblong in shape with the cut-outs forming four square feet. This vase is a substantial piece of porcelain. The Redon factory made this shape of vase in different sizes. This vase is the larger one made, standing a little over 8\" tall. It measures 5-1/2\" across the widest part of the body and about 3\" across the widest part of the sides. The rim opening measures 4-1/8\" by 2-5/8\".

This vase was obviously treasured by all its past owners (including us) as it\'s in excellent antique condition with absolutely no flaws whatsoever. There is no wear to the hand painted decoration and rarest of all, no wear to the gold trim. It is truly worthy of display in the finest porcelain collections.
