The beautiful reeded decoration on both lid and base in combination with gold washed interior have presented an eye catching masterpiece
This top quality vinaigrette is a true Georgian antique & 188 years old but still in nice condition and would shine in any vinaigrette/silver collection.A beautiful antique vinaigrette which would be a decent addition to any silver collection.
The grill has highly decorative pierce floral pattern which is still completely intact after 188 years!
It was made from good gauge of sterling silver.
This highly collectible Georgian silver masterpiece has been offered with what so of vinaigrette:
silver vinaigrette is a small receptacle to contain scented vinegar used by ladies to ward off faintness. The earliest-known examples in separate form dates from 1492. Such pieces were popular from the mid 18th century, They were made in innumerable forms and styles (such as circular, oval, polygonal, heart-shaped or shell-shaped, and in fantasy forms, such as a shoe, book, watch-case, purse, acorn...) in silver, gold or porcelain, with a pierced metal grille under the stopper or the securely hinged lid to cover a sponge saturated with a scented substance.
Fully sterling silver hallmarks:
Birmingham 1825.Its grill is also carries identical lion hallmark for sterling silver which confirm its originality.
Maker: T.S.Thomas Shawwho was registered in Birmingham between 1818 & 1837 and was specialised in making top quality silver Vinaigrette and Snuff Box.
Description and condition [ please see pictures]:
Beautiful Georgian sterling silver and gilt [Gold washed interior] vinaigrette with nice reeded decoration on both lid and base.
There is no inscription/initials, so it can be personalised.
The hinged grill is also very decorative which in combination with the gold washed interior have presented a stylish masterpiece.
It was made from good gaugeof sterling silver.
It has a top quality and is in nice condition after 188 years with only couple of pin size dents that even hardly can be seen in close
inspection and just mentioned for accuracy.
There are No Split/Hole/Repair/Soldering what so ever.
A truly Georgian masterpiece in a nice condition.
Hinges are in good order and both grill and lid close nicely and tightly.
Gilt [Gold washed interior] is in nice original condition with minimal signs of aging as you can see in pictures.
