BIG PAIR antique PEWTER CARVED BAROQUE ANTIQUE GOTHIC PRICKET CANDLESTICKS ALTAR TAPERSTICKS

A rare pair of GOTHIC carved Pewter CHURCH altar sticks or candle holders ( Kandelaber, Chandelier, candelabras ) , with Baroque manner tripod feet and scrollwork. Very well carved and turned, these tapersticks are not hallmarked, but that is not unusual being made for the church . An iron prickett top holds the wide wax candles onto a turned pewter column support with neoclassical and baroque scrollwork. Raised on three Queen Ann cabriole feet. Originally they would have been weighted with something inside to prevent them being knocked over , but this has obviously been removed at some stage, hence the interior underneath looks clean ( Patina) They are however around 1 kg each so substantially heavy enough. They have had a few dints ( see all images below) and being pewter this could easily be straightened out, but we have left them as found as I think it adds to their charm. They do stand very straight and true. I would put these as French but definitely European early 19th century or even earlier origin.
