Maxfield Parrish collectors will recognize this as one of the more difficult MP covers to acquire. In stunning condition. I\'m also listing BOOK NEWS August 1896 with his cover illustration, so consider checking out my othersales. Illustration was created when MP was about 25 years old, recognized as a good artist but well before his popularity exploded. Style is typical of his 1890\'s early work, though not recognized by most of the public as quintessential Parrish. Essentially a recording of the beginning of artist evolution. Ironic subtext for his illustrating the cover of Book Newsis that he would go on to to illustrate some of the best selling and collectible children\'s books of the coming century. Infact, the number one collectible children\'s book Mother Goose in Prose, a Baum and Parrish collaboration, would be published just a few years after these covers.

CONDITION: Very good collectible condition. Moderate soiling front though still and exceedingly presentable example. Paper fold-over \"binding\" all there. One very small tear at binding on first page (at point of staples). Predicted age patina but quite clean internally. Some light soiling first few pages. NO foxing, NO previous owner markings. Consult photos. They are the best indicator of what\'s being offered and are considered part of the description.
