This Armor Bronze set was created using the long lost art of bronze cladding a plaster concrete mold. For details go to Gerald McBride’s Collector’s Guide to Metal Bookends for it describes in detail how the process is done.

This set depicts George Washington’s family ancestral home which is situated in the village of Sulgrave, near Banbury in Northamptonshire, England. This three dimensional set is one of the nicest sets I have owned in my 45 plus years of collectingand sellingbookends. It is almost completely void of damage other than a few very characteristic tiny dings in the soft bronze cladding. No breaks, separations, or missing cladding. The back side is the typical 1920’s fake hammered effect that was actually cast into the original concrete mold but was very effective looking and gives this set a special balance of making the ends look like old cast iron but much more beautiful aged patina. The Armor BronzeCompany is the only known works who produced this set in the bronzeclad process whereas Hubley Mfg, Verona Mfg,Albany Foundry, and B & H Mfg. did their sets in cast iron.

The felt coverings are replacements. These are totally void of any type of breaks, splits, or missing parts. These are listed in Gerald McBride’s publication on bookends along with the original bookend book by Louis Kurtizky, with a estimated circa of 1924
This set is an extremely difficult set to find in this condition and in a matched pair. These are 5” tall and weigh in at 5lbs. the pair.
