Here we have a very nice example of a bone-handled Yataghan sword. The non-ferrous metals on the scabbard and handle we suppose are mostly Alpaca Silver (or nickel silver, or German silver - an alloy containing no pure silver but which mimics its appearance and properties) and copper, some of which must have initially been either plated and/or or painted gold. Set on the handle, hilt and scabbard are several coral beads, three of which are missing. There is illuminated writing on both sides of the blade in an alphabet unfamiliar to us, and as it likely contains some interesting background information such as dates, we had hoped to get some insight into that before going ahead and starting this at 9.99, but we will just have to trust that a large enough handful of you will have enough confidence in your near-Eastern language resources to make your own determinations. The scabbard is engraved metal wrapped in wood, and all is holding together quite well. We are not experts on near-Eastern antiquities; any information regarding the item that might provide scholarly insight, and that you would like the listing amended to reflect, please share!
In Very Good Antique Condition. Minimal, expected signs of wear considering age. Very sharp, though not resharpened. Missing three orange beads. Minor losses/imperfections to the metal details in the handle, hilt and scabbard. The bone handle is sturdy throughout, with expected discoloration. The metal strap between the grips on one side had once been severed, though is presently held in place by the proximal handle material (We thought better than to attempt to mend it; we will leave that to the discretion of the next owner.) Please see detail images.
