This battle damaged small trappers tomahawk belongedto Private William Franklin who served in Captain Philip Love’s Company of theBotetourt County Virginia Militia at the Battle of Point Pleasant in LordDunmore’s War. It is 13 1/16\" at the hand carved oak handle with an iron flat back, round poll 3 5/16\" head with a 1 13/16\" blade that has a 1 7/8\" cutting edge It is in good condition with the wood handle having several small insect holes & shows a lot of use & the head has light to light/medium pits with a dark brown patina.There is some battle damage on the lower cutting edge from this battle. Inthis battle the Botetourt Militia was in the thick of the fighting against theShawnee & Mingo Indians where the Kanawha River joins the Ohio River inwhat is now West Virginia on October 10, 1774. It was bought directly from the Franklin family & comes with a certificate of authenticity, a family letter.
