Beautiful Vintage Mosaic Box with Miniature PaintingThis intricate little box was created in the ancient tradition of Sadeli Mosaic that is said to have originated in Persia from where it was introduced into India where it became a favorite of the British in the days of the Raj.
Often long strips of rosewood, dyed wood strips, bone andabalone were glued together and bound, then sliced to reveal the pattern and create multiples. An exacting and difficult technique that required great skill.
This particular box is rectangular in shape with a beautiful hand painted lid and divided inner compartment.
Measurements:6 5/8\" long x 3 5/8\" wide x 1 7/8\" high
