An unusual find, this is an antique straw bonnet, which I think is called a poke bonner, made for an early doll. I let my early wooden model it so you can see how it frames the face, as these once did for women in the early 1800s. It measures 5\"\' from the front rim to the back of the head, and 5\" from front corner to the top. When measured all the way around the front from curved edge to curved edge, it is 13 1/2\". The original ribbon and faux fruit trim in still here, though faded with time....which I think adds to the allure. Folded ribbon also frames the inside, set so it frames the face. The only damage I see is some loosening between the rows of straw along the top front, which is pictured.
