Dominican amber is known for the clarity as well as varietyof its inclusions. Such things as insects, arachnids, and botanicals can be found. Dominican amber has been dated to between 17 and 20 million years old according to geologic studies.

This amberfossilfromthe mines in the Dominican Republiccontains a beautifully preserved,fossil stingless bee (genus Proplebeia, species dominicana, now extinct) along with botanicals. The botanicals are mainly debris with a couple mosses.

This is a large piece and weighs 9.3 grams!

Unlike those stingless bees found in Colombian copal, this particular species is now confirmed to be extinct.
