Lladró’s History:

These Spanish hard-based porcelain works are the results of three brothers opening a ceramics workshop in Almacera in 1951.They first produced vases and jugs, before beginning on sculptures in 1956, which they are now most famous for. They expanded their workshop a couple times before eventually moving their factory to Spain in 1958,where they started a ceramic training school.All their works are currently created in The City of Porcelain, a creative open space with its first buildings built in 1959.This space is utilized for Lladró production, but also for workshops, recreational activities, and studio space.What start started out as a few buildings has expanded to over 100,000 square feet.

In 1970, they began using gres, a new material, for their pieces, which gives them an earthy feel and natural touch.Because of their distinct look and elongated style, they are sought after pieces in not only the ceramic world, but collectors, and gift-givers alike. from their traditional gloss finish, there are also rare editions of their pieces, which feature a bisque, or matte, finish.From 1970’s to the present, Lladró has partnered internationally, had a museum opened in Manhattan, and most recently expanded into the lighting market by creating a line of lamps, chandeliers, and sconces, as well as their first piece in the Dazzle collection, which features geometric black and white design.
