This is a fabulous box made by the Maitland Smith Company of the Philippines. They are infamous for their opulent top of the line handmade pieces. Maitland Smith specializes in metal casting, porcelain, hand painting, inlaid marquetry and hand carved woodwork, for which they carry over 4000 items. They are an industry leader in antique inspired furniture, lighting, and luxury accessories. The company was founded in 1979 by a prominent London Antiques dealer in Hong Kong. It moved to the Philippines in 1981 and started its own manufacturing facility. These one of a kind hand crafted pieces by Maitland Smith are in a category all their own. This tabletop box is hand tooled around all the sides in dark brown. The brown is embellished with a painted gold leaf border design around all 4 sides as well as the lid. The leather showsminimal wear as the piece presents in very good to excellent condition. The top openings(2)are 5 3/8 by 4 1/2 in.It stands 9 and a 1/2 in tall. At the widest part, it measures6 1/2in wide, and is 11 3/4 inches long. Inside the box, the storage compartmentsare 4 1/2 in deep.
