Beautiful Victorian Ebony Vanity Box Silver Interior with Key
This is an great looking Victorian ebony ladies/gents dressing box/necessaire with secret drawer and key.
These items are extremely sought after and collectable, this example is very authentic and has a lot of character and lovely authentic, unusual features listed below:
It has what looks to be the original key attached to a bone key label with, \'Dressing Case\' written on it. The key and lock work well.
The keyhole and top escutcheon look very different in design to usual boxes and maybe have been custom crafted to the original owners preference. The 9th picture shows the top escutcheon and has the initial, \'A.K\'.
The 11th picture shows what looks to be a makers mark. It is a circular brass label with the letters, \'ae h\' or \'ae/r\'.
The 12th picture shows an old and authentic retail stamp reading, \'George Wyatt, Fancy Stationary Warehouse, 1 Princes Place, Clifton\'. It was 37 shillings at the time.
The interior is in fantastic condition, the silver plated lids have been lightly polished.
The inside lid is in royal navy blue ruched velvet that matches the base. Behind the ruched velvet inside lid is a mirror and letter compartment in very good condition.
The secret door is released by a brass pin and works very well indeed.
The wood has been very carefully cleaned and polished so the ebony grain looks very exotic and strong.
Is in good condition for age with markings commensurate with age.
The outside of the box have picked up some slight inlay losses as with all boxes of this age and nature. The 2nd, 7th & 8th pictures just show some small inlay areas that have some losses. The box is authentic and is full of character so these genuine aged marks detract nothing from it.
