This is an elegant 1940s clear Lucite compact made by Bucklein Creations. It is still in its original box and has never been used. It is gem-cut, or faceted, so that it has a diamond-like look to it that is extremely eye-catching. I found one in a vintage compact book and have added a couple of pictures from the book. It is identified as being a Belle-Ayre, so possibly these lovely compacts were released under different brand names. It has a blue-tinted exterior mirror, but otherwise they are identical.The box is light blue, dark blue and cream and is still in good condition with no marks and just a couple of small tears. The top flap has been removed. Marked CLASSIC GEM-CUT COMPACT~PRODUCT OF BUCKLEIN CREATIONS~MADE IN LOS ANGELES, CALIF., U.S.A.The compact measures a big 4 1/2\" by 4 1/2\" and is has eight sides. All sides have beveled edges, giving it a jewel-like faceted look. There is an exterior mirror in excellent condition, with just a bit of the expected hazing found on vintage compacts. There are no cracks or chips. The finish on the clear Lucite is in great condition, with no chipped or cracked areas. The unusually shaped hinge is nice and tight. The clear bubble-like clasp closes well. On the back there is a white decoration of concentric circles with no damage to the Lucite.Inside, the white circle decoration on the back shows through to the powder well. The interior mirror is clear and bright. The magnification on the exterior mirror is greater than the one inside, so that you can correct tiny flaws in your makeup.Lucite compacts became all the rage in the 1940s, and this superb crystal-cut two-mirror compact with its original box is a great find for collectors!
