They have been professionally tanned using a tanning agent that is the most durable I can find, will last forever also will withstand washing and abuse. Some tanning agents will not tolerate water and consequently fall apart if they get wet. These will not. They\'re perfect for making hats or bags or for home décor or even safe for pets. I only tan the nicest Raccoons Iowa has they are taken at the peak of prime. You can tell this many ways the two easiest ways I have found is look at the hair on the back and if it is standing strait up because of how thick it is then it\'s prime, also you can look at the tail and if it is not thick and bushy then it usually is an early raccoon. I do my best to sell only the nicest raccoons and anything less I sell at damaged or discounted prices. These are grade A raccoon. 37 to 40 inches from nose tip to tail tip.
