I bought this at an estate sale a while ago. I was unsure what it was so I asked everybody I could think of and the consensus seems to be it is some sort of tether weight. While it is relatively light at about 7 1/4 pounds, I don\'t think a horse would want to run with this still attached to its reigns. On the other hand, some argued that it is a bell that is held by the ring and rung. It does have a beautiful bell ring when struck. If someone knows differently, please let me know and I will correct the listing.As I found it - unpolished or cleaned. It is brass, brushed and not polished to a gloss. No cracks. Diameter is 9\". Brass thickness of the \"bell\" is about 1/8\". There is a place inside where the brass has been ground - I don\'t know what the objective was unless there was a mark or flaw removed.
