Alice Leekya Homer is the daughter of the renowned Leekya Deyuse and married Bernard Homer Sr. She became famous herself for buckles like these which have characteristics all her own. The inlay pattern is called Random Inlay by her family and has been referred to as \"freestyle inlay\" but Tthis is large flowers that remind me of a fabulous Georgia O\'Keeffe painting. This is an arresting and very rare buckle. I\'ve never seen another by her or anyone else that is like this one. She put some unique qualities into this belt buckle which has distinctive elements of her own, such as the reverse \"s\" in the center. The entire buckle is hand made but this uses a swivel belt holder and I think it\'s an early piece of hers. It\'s astonishingly, arrestingly gorgeous with vibrant coloration that stops you up short. There is purple abalone, yellow lip shell and jet on a background of mosaic inlaid rich turquoise that looks like it was painted on with thick dripping oil paint. The buckle measures 2-3/4\" x 2\" wide. This is a great piece created by a great artist. It is signed ALH which is her hallmark, and not marked for silver content but guaranteed to be at least coin silver. Alice Leekya Homer is featured on page 134 of the book: \"Knifewing and Rainbow Man in Zuni Jewelry.\" Page 136 of Paula Baxter\'s book \"Southwest Silver Jewelry\" has her bracelet depicted and attributed to Bernard Homer Jr, her husband. Surely they worked together but I think she did most of the work and it\'s she who signed this buckle. I\'ve also included a picture of a bolo she made earlier in Blue Gem turquoise, which is also available here separately. It would go beautifully with this buckle. I\'ve added the Baxter page to the pictures above as the last picture. In addition I have a whole set of hers (bracelet, pin, earrings, ring) but it is in a different style.

This buckle is an excellent example of an important Zuni silversmith. Condition is excellent vintage with age appropriate wear. This is an important collector\'s piece and will be a joy to wear for a man or a woman. This is a unique piece, one of a kind, and it\'s brilliant. The color can light up a room!
