Important Zuni Annalee Tekala Knifewing Bolo Rare Shells & Stones1950s-1960s #1:
$1100.00

Welcome!

Offered...one of a pair of very rare and exceptionally gorgeous bolos which is absolutely amazing in beauty. The upswept wing design of this nature was first said three years ago by Roger Tsabetsaye made by Rosemary Cellicion, her son, Delger and nephew Anselm Wallace as being the design of Myra Auile Vacit Tucson. They all were part of the same extended family in the same house. Continued research by Ernie Bulow unearthedmuch important information. This bolo and the other in my store were made by Annalee Tekala who was the daughter of Winnie Wallace and the first cousin to Myra Iule Vacit Tucson. The template I\'ve included in the pictures above was made by her and used for this and the other wonderful knifewing bolo in my store, a picture of which I\'ve also included above. Annalee Tekala lived from 1950 to 1995 and her creation of these two bolos has been confirmed by multiple sources. She has been a previously unknown master artist.

Details:
• Bolo size: 3-5/8” high 2-1/2” wide
• Tips size: 2-1/8” high
• Tie End to End with Tips: 36\"
• Bennett Closure: C31

This bolo is in new condition though it dates to the 1950s to 1960s.While unsigned and not marked for silver content which is usual for those times, it is at least coin silver at .900 and probably sterling silver at .925. The choice of stones and shells is electrifying in this piece, with abalone, mother of pearl. coral, brown shell, turquoise, jet, and a lot of yellow lip shell. Everything seems to be original to this exceptional piece.

It\'s a unique unsigned piece by Annalee Tekala, and it\'s a masterpiece. This bolo is made by one of the great unsung artists in Zuni history. This is a one-of-a-kind bolo of complex design with rare and beautiful stones, a sophisticated masterpiece of museum quality. I listed the pair to it separately and commend the two to your attention. Note that all the great artists made each piece differently from the other; they did not do cookie cutter work but enjoyed creating unique flourishes in each. This is a museum quality piece suitable for the best of collections and is a very important find.

When I include pages from published books in my listings it is in accordance with Fair Use Law, which permits the use of source material for discussion, reference, education and criticism.

Attributions on many of the old pieces of Native American jewelry are sometimes a moving target. All the books have errors, so in addition to counterchecking, I have developed some expertise over the years and I do care about getting it right, so as more information comes to light I update my listings and also get in touch with my previous buyers, to inform them of any changes in attributions. I am sincerely committed to ongoing accuracy.

Everything I sell comes from my personal collection or is something that I would include in my personal collection. Most pieces are museum worthy and gallery suitable, sold to you at great pricing. I vet every item carefully for quality and condition, and offer you the best. I want you to be able to rely on me for top quality, superb items that are often unique and rare examples of old antique vintage southwest, indian, native american and fine gold and gemstones, whether you\'re starting a collection or adding to one, or want something great to wear or gift. My goal is that all my buyers are delighted, that my special pieces find the right homes.
