This is a beautiful big antique Victorian circa 1890 sterling silver Scottish agate brooch. PLEASE NOTE: there are a couple of dings in the side of the brooch which is not unusual for this particular style of brooch.
I have collected agates in Scotland for over 20 years and know where most of the lovely gemstones that Victorians used for their classic jewellery were found.
The lovely stones are green and red speckled bloodstones from the Isle of Rum and orange jaspers from the Campsie Fells in Stirlingshire.
The brooch has no hallmarks which is fairly normal for pieces of this age but has been fully tested and is sterling silver. The length is 4.1 cm and the pin and C clasp are in good working condition although the pin is not original.
