This is a beautiful big antique Victorian circa 1890 sterling silver Scottish agate brooch.
I have collected agates in Scotland for over 20 years and know where most of the lovely gemstones that Victorians used for their classic jewellery were found.
The Scottish stones are classic orange Campsie Fells jaspers from Stirlingshire and green and red speckled bloodstones from the Isle of Rum.The central stone is a facetted glass brandy citrine made to simulate a real citrine from the Cairngorm mountain range.
The brooch has no hallmarks which is fairly normal from brooches of this period but has been fully tested and is sterling silver. The length is big at 4.6 cm and the pin and C clasp are in working condition and original.
