Description:

Rare 18th century hand blown WINE CARAFE with cut glass neck and triple ring below.

The bulbous gourd shaped body , Entirely hand blown with facetted cut neck above the moulded rings. The bulbous gourd shaped body resting on solid base isdesigned to aerate the wine as it is swirled around the bowl. The flared lip and neck allow for ease of pouring and handling the carafe and were never designed to have a stopper.

Most likely French or even English Circa 1730 or earlier. These shapes for wine carafe have been used since the 16th century and examples appear in Dutch still life masterpieces.
