I hand forged this 10th Century Viking Sword myself from carbon steel, using just a hammer and anvil. The process started by pounding flat a large bar of metal, and forming the basic shape of the blade. Next, the tang was forged from the steel blank into its appropriate specifications. The blank, was then bevelled, fullered, and pointed. After the forging process was complete, the blade was hardened and tempered, to enable it for use. The final process of making the blade is composed of polishing. All rough polishing was done using an angle grinder, but all the fine polishing was done entirely by hand using progressively finer grits of sandpaper.

The handle is composed of three parts. The guard, the grip, and the pommel. The guard and pommel were both hand forged from bars of metal, cut off, and then ground, to their final shape. The grip was made of wood that was cut, sanded, and drilled out to fit the tang. Next, the guard and pommel were engraved, and inlayed with copper wire for decoration. The grip was then wrapped in tanned leather using a stitched pattern. Once all the pieces of the handle were finished, they were secured onto the tang of the sword. The sword itself was then complete.

The included scabbard was made of two oak planks, that were chiseled out by hand, glued together, sanded to shape, and then wrapped in leather to accommodate the leather design on the grip of the sword. The scabbard also includes an attached sword belt (not pictured) to enable it to be worn on ones side.
The entire process of crafting this sword from start to finish took me 48 hours of pain-staking labor. However, I very much enjoyed the making of this sword. The sword is exceptionally beautiful, and is just as much a decoration, as it is a useable weapon. Plus, it is very well balanced, making it easy to wield. The sword is also suitable for cutting. Also, the blade is currently blunt, so just let me know at the point of order if you would like it sharpened. Sharpening is at no extra cost. The blade is 29 inches long, and the handle is 7 3/4 inches long. The scabbard is included. This is a high quality product, completely and entirely hand made in my backyard.
