It is very knobby/gnarly and very straight. An awesome self defense stick for hiking, or walking. Very stylish too. I have 3 shillelaghs from oldeshillelagh.com. I love them all. Just thinning my collection for Christmas money. If you have been thinking about getting a shillelagh, don\'t let thisone get away. It has a rubber boot over the antiqued brass ferrule. Would make an awesome Christmas present.
