The manufacturer was most likely the Old King Cole company whose specialty was paper mach store displays. It is 8 1/2\" high, 8\" when measured front to back & 7\" at its widest point. It has applied headphones made from a heavy paper material. My last picture shows the figure without 1 headphone so you can see where it was pinned to the head. When found, this headphone was missing & I had a replacement made using the 1 original that was still attached. Connecting he headphones on the figure is the original paper band that says CROSLEY PUP with the zigzag line thru the name which was how the brand was identified. The green band in the back is molded & painted to represent a dog collar. There is a silk or satin ribbon around his neck which was on it when I bought it 25 years ago & it does appear to be original. Condition is outstanding with some minor evidence of wear on the tips of the ears & edges of his feet. Paint is 100% original. As noted, it does have 1 replacement headphone. There is a variation of the display with molded to the head headphones.THE STORY: The comic strip/story book character of Bonzo was created by British artist George E. Studdy in the early 1920s & he was almost immediately turned into an advertising powerhouse. Bonzo is frequently depicted wearing headphones & early in his career he became the advertising mascot for the Crosley Radio company. Crosley was headquartered in Cincinnati & the company founder, Powel Crosley, was known as the Henry Ford of radios because of his efforts to put at least one low cost radio in every home. The Crosley was the first mass market, mass produced radio & was sold for $7 when other radios in 1922 were selling for up to $100. The early Crosley radio came with a headphone jack. The Crosley story is worth reading on their website under HISTORY. In addition to radios they produced kitchen appliances, TVs, record players & the first compact car! At one point in the 1930s Powel Crosley owned a radio station & the Cincinnati Reds major league baseball team. They are still in business & currently produce a line of retro radios, record players & telephones. The manufacturer of the display was Old King Cole, a company renowned for their paper mach store displays most notably the displays made for Walt Disney in the 1930s.
