This is a leaf of early printingfrom the Biblica Latina printed in Venice in 1519 by LucantonioGiunta reprinted from an earlier 1511 edition. This leaf is fromRomans chapters 12 through 15. Lucantonio Giunta was one of themajor figures in a distinguished family of Florentine publishers,printers and booksellers. He was born in Florence in 1457 andwas a bookseller there until he moved to Venice in 1477, wherehe continued his trade until 1489 when he established his ownpress. Active in Venice between 1489 and 1538, he and his heirsdistinguished themselves particularly for their large number ofliturgical books, missals and breviaries, many with beautifulillustrations, as well as illustrated books in the vernacularfor the mass market. The leaf contains 52 lines of Latin textprinted double column in a Gothic typeface. This leaf is from the Book of Proverbs and contains Proverbs 5-8. The subject of these Proverbs deals with the temptation of adultery and how to avoid such temptations. There is copious underlining of passages as well as contemporary annotations. The Versocontains the same amount lines type of print. (Adams B995; Essling145; Sander 1002). This leaf contains minor staining.
