Mid 1800’s brass bound mahogany gentleman’s dressing boxthat would make an excellent jewellery box for the man of today oralternatively would be a worthwhile project to source the various accessoriesthat would have originally featured to the interior sections. Measuresapproximately 11” x 8” x 4 ½”. The box is in very good condition with no missingor replaced wood. The protective brass corners, cartouche and escutcheon areall original and firmly fixed. Top closes square and true. Hinges and lock invery good condition with a working key supplied. Opens to reveal the originalembossed leather drop forward panel to the lid interior with recess to the backto retain a mirror or it lends itself nicely to place the likes of a photographas a finishing touch if presenting as a gift? The base section comprises of two opensections either side of a central lidded section (original lid) to the left ofthe original tray. The tray stills has all of the original side hoop handles,dividers and the original leather embossed lid with storage space beneath.Additional storage space beneath the tray for larger items of jewellery or forthe likes of bushes/comb/leather strop etc. The jewellery shown is not includedin the sale but shown to give an idea for use as a jewellery box. The otheritems shown (3 glass jars, button hook, nail file, scissors 2 cutthroat razors(the latter broken blades)) are included in the sale as they might be of use toanyone purchasing to restore the box contents to something similar to thatwhich would have originally featured. Niceitem with all of the original features in such fine condition.
