The British Army sought to upgrade their traditional \"dishpan\" helmet to a version that incorporated the dishpan\'s best features, as well as those of the US M-1. The Mk IV \"Turtle\" helmet was introduced toward the end of WW2, and was worn by British troops on the final drive into Germany, and into the 1950s. This British Army WW2 Type 1950s MK. IV \"TURTLE\" STEEL COMBAT HELMET is in very good condition, with \"SGT\" painted in black at the front crown, \"SGT PEARCE\" lightly hand marked in black at the front and back crowns, a line of dark residue around the upper right and front crowns, some surface chipping at the back edge rim, some scuffing at the top crown, some scattered scratching around the exterior, some dusting and spot patina at the inside, missing the interior liner, and with some scattered age wear evident (ALL pictured). Otherwise, the helmet is in fine shape, with absolutely no cracking or other damage to the tough steel construction, which retains approximately 85% of the original corked brown exterior finish. Most interestingly, it boasts the original OD web chinstrap, and is dated \"1952\" at the interior back. A fine example of a rare, original British Army WW2 Type 1950s MK.
