Don\'t miss out on these. The set itself is rare, and this is the first and only one with polychrome paint I\'ve ever seen.I\'m thinking I\'d bet on the buffalo in this encounter. Wish I could ask the artist, Gregory (Seymour) Allen, who name is formed into the tops of the bases.Bronze-clad, a manufacturing technique whereby a skin of bronze is deposited on a plaster form through the process of electro-plating. A handful of companies used this method in the early 1900s to make decorative household objects that had the look, feel and heft of solid bronze yet still were affordable by the middle class. One of those companies was National Metalizing Company, later changing their name to Armor Bronze. There is the customary Armor Bronze shield logo formed into the tops of the bases, but I chose instead to show you a photo of this set from an original catalogue. I have said circa1920 but I suspect it is closer to 1915. In either case, about a century old.Condition is surprisingly good. No breaks in the cladding. No portions of the design dented or bent. The edges of the bases are free of dings and dents. Paint is original, certainly showing its age but still mostly intact. The part that fared least well is the white of the buffalo skulls and the horns of the living beast. For whatever reason (probably the chemical composition), the white paint rarely survived on ANY of the sets this old. Both pieces sit flat and stable. Please know that my camera flash makes the colors look brighter than in natural light, in which the polychrome effect is more subdued. These are big: 7 1/2 inches tall; base is 7 1/2 X4 3/4 inches. And heavy: together they weigh 9 3/4 pounds.Perfect gift for the collector of things Old West.US shipping only. USPS priority. I pack with care.I SPECIALIZE IN ANTIQUE BOOKENDS AND DECORATIVE OBJECTS. PLEASE SEE MY OTHER LISTINGS FOR INTERESTING AND UNUSUAL ITEMS.
