This would be great addition to any antique English porcelain or decorative plate or Burslem Royal Doulton collector or as a holiday thank you to someone special!

ANTIQUE BURSLEM FLORAL CREAM PLATE WITH DELICATE GILDED MORNING GLORIES

I obtained several early Doulton plates, all in excellent condition and all up for sale today.

  • This hand-painted 9 1/8\" plate has a bouquet of delicately painted morning glorieswith lightly gilded the flowers veins and the greater veins of the multi-shaded leaves.
  • I was not able to find the name of this exact pattern and no artist signatureon the back.
  • The victorian influence is shown through the scalloped edges and the unusual gradient from dark to a light cream porcelain glaze. The style of plate leads me to believe it dates closer to the 1891 than the 1902 end of the plate\'s mark\'s period.
  • Gold paint edges the plate and appears to be without wear. There are soft shades of red, greens, creamy yellows and light browns on a cream background.
  • The plate is hand painted.
  • MARKS:

The coronet was probably added to the earlier mark c. 1886 to mark the appointment of Henry Doulton as \'Potter to H.R.H. The Prince of Wales\' (later King Edward VI 1), ENGLAND was added underneath after 1891. This mark continued in use until 1902. It appears to have been used instead of B.3 especially on bone china products and on the more expensive earthen wares.

  • CONDITION: No cracks or chips. Some slight wear on the rim\'s glaze near the scalloped edge, about 1/8\" long.
  • Height: 1\" Diameter: 9.5\" Weight: 15.2 oz

I often find the earlier Royal Doulton pieces to be of greater artistic value than the later porcelain which are mass-produced.
