The 13th century Russian Orthodox Icon of St. Michael, the Archangel from the Archangel Cathedral in Yaroslavl, the original is housing at State Tretyakov Gallery, Moscow.

St. Michael has been depicted from earliest Christian times as a commander, who holds in his right hand a spear, and in his left hand a green palm branch. At the top of the spear there is a linen ribbon with a red cross.The Eastern Orthodox accord Michael the title \"Archistrategos\", or \"Supreme Commander of\" the \"Heavenly Hosts.\"*I make the icon used a decoupage technique The sealer and light gloss varnish applied to the top make it water resistant. The image is transferred to the new peace of wood that I have cut and sanded by hand. The icon is stained in the back, and the sides are painted light brown.
