C. 1870 Couture Dressing Gown w Train Pintucks Eyelet Lace near mint condition:
$425.00
Long heavycotton couture dressing gown meticulously stitched and embellished with insertions ofpin tucking and eyelet lace. Fabric has the lovely rustle of quality polished cotton. Estimating the date fairly closely to the early 1870s because of the similar clothing it was found with. Probably custom made by a seamstress for the lady of the house. See my other items for drawers, petticoats, etc.
Many fine couture details: Graceful elegant train, witha deep ruffle of eyelet andpin tuckingadded over the fabric of the gown. Handstitched buttonholes on thefront cleverly hidden beneath the eyelet lace edging, which is neatly tacked downbetween buttonholes to keep it neat. Pleated from the back of the yoke. Eyelet lace standing ruffle at theneck. Pintucking and eyelet lace ruffle at the wrists.
Length nape of neck to bottom of train about 59 inches
Length fromfrom front top button to bottom of hem about 50-51 inches
Base of back yoke from arm to arm about 14 inches
Center of armhole base to armhole base about 21 inches

Near mint condition. Likely not worn much, if at all. All original buttons, eachstitched on with exactly the same thread and same number of stitches.
Probably was put away clean whenoriginally stored manydecades ago, but has the dust of those decades. Would need to bewashed/cleaned. Has the mellow color of unbleached muslin.
