Original newspaper comic strip panel art titled BONEHEAD BENby American cartoonistWALTER WELLMAN.This is a 6 frame pen & ink panel signed with Wellman\'s distinctive flourishing and almost indecipherable signature at the bottom in last frame. Typical Wellman gag panel. Gentleman in spats wearing bowler and carrying cane walks along bemoaning the pitfalls of being a bachelor and not being able to findtrustworthy women who aren\'t already engaged to some one else (he ought to know since he was engaged to 7 girls at the time). Measures approximately 6 13/16\" x 7 3/4\". Art is about5 7/8\" x6 3/4\". Very good condition for age. Pencil notes in top margin \"Bonehead Ben\" c. 1908 Walter Wellman. Ipurchased this piece from noted editorial cartoonist, cartoon historian and collector Jim Ivey (Orlando Florida) many years ago. Walter J. Wellman (1879-1949) began carer doing comic and puzzle work for the Boston Herald and the Boston Globe. His earlyself published postcards and calendar work got him noticed by the newspapers. He moved to New York and did multiple comic strips for the New York World... Wee Willie & the Big Hat Sister, Ardent Archie, Misadventures of Archie, It\'s Very Strange But True, Little Tommy Rot & Miss Heartless Flirt, Woman Have Such Funny Ways, The Rude Reverses of Reggie, \"Tis Love That Makes the World Go \'Round, Mister Hothead - He\' Soon Over it, Splash! Splash! Splash!, etc. He also contributed to various magazines of the time - Motion Picture, Cartoons , Harper\'s Bazaar, Life, Puck, Judge, Woman\'s Home Companion, etc. He was a prolific artist.
