Repair Needs (other than unnecessary major overhaul work, like re-plating):
  • Bell has crinkles around the edges (does not affect playability).
  • Has some dings and dents (does not affect playability, and it IS 136 years old, after all).
  • Valves need pads (see above). And an alignment of course IF you are actually planning on playing this.
  • Main tuning slide spit key needs to be soldered on
  • Both spit keys need corks
  • Professional cleaning (although I did give it a bath and polished what I could)
From what I can tell, the only things that are hindering this instrument from actual playability are the spit key issues, but I wouldn\'t make this my main horn, or even my backup. :)
