YOU ARE offerDING ON A 700+ YEAR OLD GORGEOUSLY ILLUMINATED GOLD BURNISHED MANUSCRIPT LEAF FROM A SPANISH BIBLIA SACRA LATINA, NAMELY THE PSALMS,
CIRCA 1225
This is a unique illuminated manuscript leaf from a Spanish Psalter, probably part of a Biblia Sacra Latina, in Latin, on vellum with numerous beautiful illuminated red and green capital letters with gorgeous linework; each burnished in shining gold, as shown. Certainly first quarter of the 13th century, and definitively Spanish in origin. Gorgeously illuminated medieval handwritten initials and text throughout, with beautiful black and red post Gothic formata miniscule handwriting, complexly arranged and created with the utmost in precision, a great relic of the care and time taken to make these pages. Fine thin vellum parchment in excellent condition with minor traces of aging and marginal soiling, a few wearpoints and some adhesive remnants at the upper edge, still, very well preserved. Rubricated. Pics taken with and without flash to show details; pages are not yellowed. As shown, apprx 16.0 x 9.5 cm. Sold with original sale certification of age and origin. early 13th century). Psalms 76 and 77 of the Biblia Sacra Latina {parts, 77 and 78 of the King James version (parts), from a Latin psalter. 1 leaf In a Gothic formata minuscule: 22 lines. With enlarged colored initials for each verse, and marginal decoration for the opening of the psalm. Here are verses 3 to 21 of Psalm 76 and verses 1 to 5 of Psalm 77 in the Biblia Sacra Latina (Psalm 7~ vv. 3-20 and Psalm 78, vv. 1-5 in the King James version). The former, \"I will cry unto God with my voice ... \" is a psalm of desolation and fearful hope, recalling to mind the close affiliation among the Biblical books of Writings, of the Psalms with Job: this psalm sets out an extensive reminiscence of the Exodus from Egypt. Psalm 77/78, \"Give ear a my people, to my law hymns \"the praises of the Lord, And his strength and his wondrous works that he hath done\"
Over 700 years Old, this is a truly rare and worthy of a museum.
