Uncommon Kinsey & Kinsey view of the interior of a mining log cabin at 34 Gold Run near Dawson Creek, Yukon Canada showing who we believe is John M Morrison reading a newspaper. Morrison is listed in several sources as holding Claim 34 on Gold Run near Dawson Creek in the Klondike. Additionally, while mining he discovered a horse skull in 1903 which ultimately was donated to the Smithsonian and was considered an unknown extinct variety at the time. The article on the Morrison donation to the Smithsonian ties him to the town of Anacoster, Washington which suggests that he is the same John M. Morrison of the Morrison Mill and operated by the five Morrison brothers. the log construction of the room is prominently shown. On the wall to the right hangs a sheet of paper with a pencil dangling from a string. A blanket hangs on the wall at the corner behind the man and along the right wall appears to be some woven cloth just below a wooden wall rack that holds a series of papers/pages (ledgers?).

Clarke and Clarence Kinsey were the brothers of the better known photographer Darius Kinsey of Washington State. The traveled to the Yukon in 1898 in pursuit of plying their craft during the height of the Klondike gold rush. They worked their own claim between documenting the local miners and towns. They eventually built their own studio in Grand Forks complete with two-story skylight said to be quite unusual for the region. The Kinsey & Kinsey photos from the Klondike era are much less common than their later works of the lumber industry which they continued with Darius upon their return to the Northwest.
