The item for sale is an original Aboriginal bark painting with alabel attached to the verso with subject matter, artist\'s name, location and C.M.S. code

The label / certificate on the backside reads in part: \"Aboriginal Art from Oenpelli Arnhem Land Australia.Depicting - Kangaroo [Ceremonial.]by Bob Balirbalir of Liverpool River. C.M.S. Code No. A311.\"

CMS Code refers to the Church Missionary Station Oenpelli, Western Arnhem Land.
It is painted with earth paints on bark of a eucalyptus tree. Painting is attached to 2 bamboo sticks.

The painting measures28 X 17 1/2 inchesand is in good condition aside from dust soiling; stray white marks; and minor surface scratches.

The back side has the number 850 written in white chalk, and \"A-311\" written in black marker.

Gunbalanya (historically referred to as Oenpelli) is an Aboriginal community in west Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory of Australia.

Oenpelli Mission was established by the Church Missionary Society in 1925 at the site of the Government run Oenpelli Aboriginal Reserve. Situated in the Alligator River District the Mission provided accommodation, education, medical care and religious instruction to Aboriginal children. Dormitories for Aboriginal children operated at the Mission until the mid 1950s. In 1975 control of Oenpelli was taken over by a local Aboriginal Community Council and it ceased to operate as a Mission.
