Offered here is a circa 1930s Navaho weaving that measures 3 feet 4inches long by 2 foot 10 incheswide or 40” x 34”. It is attributed tothe Ganado, Arizona weaving area and is in good+ condition. It was hand-woven by an expert weaver on aprimitive upright loom of all Native handshorn, handcarded and nicely handspun longstaple Churro & Churro cross sheep wool, both weft & warp. This old rug has a strong red field with 2cross centered stepped diamonds flanked by long rectangular bars. The side borders are a stepped meanderingmotif. .

We recently obtained this vintage Native Americantextile fresh out of a Colorado collection just to offer you here on . It has a tight, even weft count averaging 22per inch and a warp count of 7 per inch.The selvage cords are: 1 endexcellent, 1 end very good but with 1 break and 2 sides good to very good with2 breaks on each side. Warp selvages are2-spiral cords and weft selvages are 2-spiral cords. The corners are: 1 excellent condition and 3 good + each witha couple of broken warps. The tassels are all missing. It has never been cleaned, is fairly cleannow & comes from a non-smoking home.There are 12 to 15 old moth bites, a small spot of chewing with a couplehaving made small 3/8” size holes. Bothsides are even in pattern color and shown in photos above. Colors are excellent in this piece of oldAmerican Indian art and they are: handcarded & hand blended natural dark chocolate brown & ivory white alongwith hand dyed aniline dark turkey red. Completewith lazy lines, this example of old Native Americana is ready to head yourway. (2178RBQ)
