This is an exquisite Northwestern Native American carved bowl. Please note that this is not an item I am familiar with and I must leave judgement of age / region of origin / tribe / tribal affiliation up to more knowledgeable minds than mine. The bowl is trough shaped - oblong - and has an Eagle head at either end. The Eagle\'s wings wrap around the sides of the bowl. Where the two wings meet on each side, a figure is represented - sheltered beneath the wings. The carving is rough and I am not sure what to make of the almost unfinished nature of the carving. There is shrinkage to the wood from age that has resulted in cracks. The largest cracks are found at the Eagles necks\'. There is a visible crack on either side of both Eagles. In addition to the cracks there is wear including scuffing and scratches from age. Each beak is carved all the way through. There is some shine to the wood - possibly from handling? From my limited knowledge / research, I think this may be a grease bowl or a feast bowl and may be either Inuit or Haida. I am entirely unsure of the age of this piece. Please note that I am not an expert in this area and there is no intent to deceive, I am simply going by what I have seen. The bowl measures just under 24\" long and just about 9\" wide. At the ends, the tallest points, the bowl is about 7\" tall. This is a remarkable example of Native American functional art.
