$119.00

Gorgeous, rare vintage, European-made larger silver Catholic Cross pendant featuring a unique artistic design including a large, detailed image of the Holy Face of Jesus (the Veil of Saint Veronica), a symbolic depiction of God the Father as a Triangle, and the Alliance of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary. Gently used, \"MINT\" vintage condition; lightly worn out and covered with patches of light silver patina. The cross appears to be made of unmarked silver alloy; was acid-tested as high-grade, \"sterling-like\" silver alloy (please see the pictures). The pendant is 100% sound, robust, and ready to be worn.
The obverse centerpiece bears an iconic image of the Holy Face of Jesus, as preserved on the \"Veil of Saint Veronica\".The Veil of Veronica is a Christian relic of a piece of cloth which bears a true image of the Holy Face of Jesus. The Western Catholic tradition says that Saint Veronica from Jerusalem met Jesus on his way to Calvary. When she wiped the blood and sweat of His Face with her veil, an image has been imprinted on the cloth. The event is commemorated by the Catholic Church as the Sixth Station of the Cross. According to the Western tradition, the Veil bearing a true image of Christ was able to quench thirst, cure blindness, and even raise the dead.
The top vertical crossbar bears a symbolic image of God the Father Almighty depicted as a triangle symbolizing the Holy Trinity, and/or the \"All-Seeing Eye of God\". The bottom vertical crossbar bears an image of amonstrance, also known as an ostensorium, the vessel used inthe Catholic Church for exhibition of the consecrated Eucharistic host (“theBody of Christ”) during Eucharistic adoration or Benediction of the BlessedSacrament. The Body of Christ is marked with the Latin “IHS” abbreviationmeaning the Sacred Name of Jesus.
The left and right sides of the horizontal crossbar of the Cross bear theimages of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus andthe Immaculate Heart of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary. The Alliance of the Hearts of Jesus and Mary is based on the historical, theological and spiritual links in Catholic devotions to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary. The joint devotion to the Hearts was first formalized in the 17th century by Saint John Eudes who organized sources relating to the devotions and obtained the Approbation of the Church prior to the visions of Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque. The origin of the Catholic devotion to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus in its modern form is derived from a Roman Catholic nun from France, Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque, who said she learned the devotion from Jesus during a series of apparitions to her between 1673 and 1675.
The reverse of the Crossbears an inscription in French \"ADORATION REPARATRICE\" meaning \"RESTORATIVE ADORATION\" incorporated into the horizontal crossbar. The devotion of Reparation to the Holy Face of Jesus is adevotion that was first heard of through a Carmelite Nun named Sister Mary ofSt. Peter in France (1844). Sister Mary of St. Peter stated that Our Lordwanted this devotion to be spread throughout the world with the goal of makingreparation for the sins which offend God. When a man named Leo Dupont startedpracticing this devotion privately in his home, miracles started occurring, and lastedfor a period of over 30 years. The Catholic Church investigated and publiclyrecognized the miracles as authentic. In 1885, to emphasize the importance ofthis devotion, Pope Leo XIII established this special devotion as anArchconfraternity. Numerous indulgences have been granted from several Popes, including Pope Pius IX and Pope Leo XIII, to those devoted to the Devotion tothe Holy Face of Jesus.
The vertical crossbar bears an inscription in French \"DES NATIONS CATHOLIQUES REPRESENTEES A ROME\" meaning \"CATHOLIC NATIONS REPRESENTED IN ROME\". This inscription likely confirms that the 1885 Archconfraternity of Pope Leo XIII has been established for the entire world, all Catholic nations represented in Rome.
